I would look up to Karan Grover in DMG; never in my dreams I thought our show will topple it : Mohit Sehgal
Riding high on the success of their popularity in Miley Jab Hum Tum, Mohit Sehgal and Sanaya Irani have taken on the roles of anchors in the celebrity dance reality show Zara Nachke Dikha. The show, scheduled to start from May 1, is already in the news for its glamour quotient. TellyChakkar caught hold of busybody Sehgal for a quick chat.
You have completed one and a half years in Miley Jab Hum Tum. Feels good?
It feels great. I still remember the first day of my shooting. I was new, raw and very nervous. I was very jittery about my performance and whether I would be able to deliver or not. But I did, thanks to everyone in the team. After coming this far, I have realised that team effort can bring a show to the top. I am thankful to all my directors, my co-stars and viewers who have made this success possible. Our show is number one now and it's a big high in my career and I am very happy. No two ways about it.
Few years back, when I used to watch Karan Grover who I thought played his character well and made it so popular in Dil Mil Gaye, I never thought that a day would come when my show would topple DMG which was in the top spot. I never thought in my dreams that our show would beat it and become the most popular show.
Samrat Shergil is one of the most popular characters on Indian television today. According to you, what makes him tick?
Samrat is happy-go-lucky. He spreads happiness and joy. He is charming and popular amongst girls. He uses that charm to make everyone happy. What more do you need? People love to watch these kinds of characters who make them happy too.
Do you feel you have improved as an actor?
I cannot judge myself. It’s for the viewers to tell me. On my part, I am giving my best and working hard. I can promise that I will keep trying new things and present myself in different ways. Viewers need to tell me whether they like it or not.
What are the ups and downs of being an actor?
Everyone comes to the film and television industry for glamour. I won't lie, even I was attracted by the glamour. I am being honest when I am saying that the name and fame associated with this industry attracted me a lot and I enjoy that. I like when people notice me on the streets, when they come for an autograph and when they praise me. My grandfather had some friends from the film industry and I used to listen to all these stories about glitz, glamour and gossip of the industry from him. I think the rumours and some other not-so-good things that happen in the industry are what I don’t like.
You are starting out as a host. Are you nervous?
For the last three days I am shooting without any break. I have not eaten properly, I have not brushed my teeth and have not slept. Today my body gave up and I had to request my director of MJHT to give me a day off. I want to sleep for some time now so I can restart my shooting. So there is no time to feel nervous now.
Hosting is completely new, so when I started, I was tense. The first day was difficult and I was quite numb in front of judges like Shilpa Shetty, Arshad Warsi and Vaibhavi Merchant. But they all are very cool and really boosted my spirits. Now I am comfortable with hosting.
You and Sanaya are junior to all the contestants. So how are you going to interact with them?
This is a dance-based show and all of us can just enjoy the contest and chill. As you know, the format is a battle of sexes so there will be more fun and joy in the show. We all should enjoy and take things lightly. I am going to be Mohit Sehgal in the show and I am hopeful that my fans will like me in this new role too.
It's a girl; Terence ki Shakti wears sunheri topi
The choice was tough, actually it was a fight between Dharmesh Yelande and Shakti Mohan from Geeta Ki Gang and Terence Ki Toli respectively as chances of Remo ke rangeeley Punit and Geeta’s other contestant, Binny Sharma winning looked glum. After all, Yelande and Mohan had been slugging it out to grab the maximum number of votes week after week and in the past couple of weeks, Yelande was clearly emerging the winner.
So Shakti it was, as she won the second season of DID with current heart-throb and Pandit Birju Maharaj placing the sunheri topi on the former’s head. Dharmesh was declared the first runner-up followed by Punit. It was a glittering and fitting finish to the show which not only had the country dancing with some amazing and breathtaking performances and varied dance forms but also raking in the numbers for the channel.
While all the eliminated contestants joined in the fun of the fabulous finale that took place earlier in the evening at the choc-a-bloc Andheri sports complex with the audiences going into raptures each time the dancers went on the stage to show off some mean moves. It was the first time, mentors Remo D’Souza, Geeta Kapoor and Terence Lewis danced with their bachchas. Even grandmaster Mithun Chakravorty and hosts Saumya Tandon and Jay Bhanushali were at their chirpy best, soaking in the last moments of season 2.
A great, foot tapping time was had by all as yet another successful DID edition came to a close.

Hussain replaces Vivek Oberoi as lead in Kingdom of Dreams..
Hussain Kuwajerwala will play the lead in the musical play, Kingdom of Dreams produced by Wizcraft...
The 'Prince' Vivek Oberoi who was to play the lead in the musical play 'Kingdom of Dreams' will not be part of the project anymore. And replacing him as the lead is the handsome hunk of television, Hussain Kuwajerwala.
The musical play which is based on the Dilip Kumar movie Azaad, is a Rs. 200 crore project which will happen in the fabulous auditorium in Gurgaon, Delhi. The play has been written by Javed Akhtar. Gauhar Khan and Isha Sharvani will also feature in the play. Kingdom of Dreams is a Wizcraft initiative, and the artists are currently rehearsing in Delhi for the big show. The costumes for the play will be designed by Neeta Lulla, while the action sequences have been done by Allan Amin. Shiamak Davar will be the choreographer for the musical play.
According to our source, "Vivek Oberoi was excited to get back to the theatre roots, and was earlier finalized to play the lead in the musical. Things remained that way even after his movie Prince got a remarkable opening. However, Vivek started to give a tough time to the producers thereafter, and seemed disinterested to be part of the multi-crore project. This forced the makers to remove him from the project, and look for a suitable replacement".
It is heard that Javed Akhtar was the person who suggested the name of Hussain Kuwajerwala to Wizcraft.
"Hussain is a very talented dancer who has shown his prowess in Bollywood dance forms time and again, and the production house is very happy with him joining their troupe. Hussain has already started rehearsing for the play", informs our source.
Hussain who has now shifted base to Delhi for his rehearsals, will be flying to Mumbai every week to host the episodes of Indian Idol, from the Studio round onwards. Indian Idol, is also produced By Wizcraft. Hussain's dancing skills reached a big high when he won the dancing reality show on Star Plus, Nach Baliye 2 along with wife Tina Kuwajerwala.
We tried calling Hussain Kuwajerwala, but he remained unavailable.
We also tried calling Namit Sharma, Business Head, Wizcraft but he too remained unavailable.
Kitani Mohabbat Hai to have a sequel?
The continuous outbursts of fans has in fact forced the channel to think seriously about a sequel for the most popular show Kitani Mohabbat Hai..
Karan Kundra and Kritika Kamra have today become big names in the television industry, courtesy the enormous fan following that they were bestowed with, for essaying the very cute love birds Arjun and Arohi in Imagine and Balaji Telefilms' Kitani Mohabbat Hai.
Karan and Kritika were a hit as a Jodi ever since the inception of the show, and went on to have a hug fan base. But the loyal viewers of the show got a jolt when Kitani Mohabbat Hai was given an abrupt end by the channel in September last year.
This actually brought huge uproar, and the fans started sending petitions to the channel demanding a sequel of the show.
According to our source, "The extremely angry fans flooded the email inboxes of Imagine and its executives and demanded an explanation for the abrupt end, and also requested for the return of the show. In fact, during the course of one weekend alone, over 6400 fans signed a petition urging the channel to bring back their favorite show. We have now got into the New Year, but this does not stop the fans from continuing with their petitions and requests. All this has made the channel to think seriously, and it now looks as though the channel has understood the huge potential that Kitani Mohabbat Hai has when it comes to the fan following".
The latest news on this front is that talks are certainly on between the channel and production house for a sequel.
A little birdie tells us, "The continuous outburst of fans has in fact forced the channel to work on the sequel. Talks are certainly on, and the channel and production house have taken it ahead. Though the plans are still on paper, it seems as though there are bright chances of the sequel coming up. The production house has started to work on the script, but is tight-lipped at the moment. The channel and production house do realize that if at all they are bringing back the love story of Arjun and Arohi, the script this time has to be bigger and better. If all goes well, Karan Kundra and Kritika Kamra will continue to be the lead pair in the sequel, while the production house might go on a look out for fresh cast for the other characters".
If our sources are to be believed, things will be very clear by mid May or June. It is also heard that the abrupt ending given to Sony's Pyaar Ka Bandhan which had Kritika Kamra in it, is proof enough that the planning for the sequel is certainly on.
When contacted, Kritika Kamra told us, "Yes, I have also heard that talks are on for a sequel of Kitani Mohabbat Hai. But I have not been approached so far for it".
Karan Kundra too echoed the same and said, "Though I have not been directly approached, I have heard that talks are on for the same between the production house and channel. But nothing is clear as of now".
We sent a text message to Shailja Kejriwal, EVP Content, Imagine but we did not get a response from her.
We also sent a text message to Ekta Kapoor but did not get any revert.
Guess it will be a huge moral victory for the loyal fans of the show, if they do see their favorite show coming back….
